Chapter #3 The myth of that one thing.
I once believed, only If I can find my passion and center my life around it, I would be happy and satisfied. I was always fascinated by computer programming, so I spent almost 5 years building my life around it, without ever asking what exactly is the passion, and how it can satisfy me? My work became that one thing. A place of refuge.
In way or another deeply we buy into this idea of one thing that will solve all our problem. One job, one person, one car, certain amount of money, we really believe if we can find that one thing and center our life around it. Maybe it is something that is causing you a lot of trouble in the moment. Or maybe it is something that will lead you to a lot of happiness. We get to live happily ever after.
It is because the nature of our mind is pointy. It can hold only one thing at a time, and we naively believe if we can hold that one thing we will be happy. But it simply doesn’t work this way.
It is an assumption, and a faulty one too. It is also known as attachment.
