Chapter #8 work
Indian wisdom tradition puts a lot of emphasis on the concept of swadharma. According to it we all have our nature, when we understand our nature and align our work with that, we feel at peace and satisfied. When we act against our nature and even if end up succeeding [ whatever that means ] we feel at unease and dissatisfied. It went ahead and assert that it is far better to fulfill your swadharam errorusluy than fulfill others swadharma with perfection. There are 4 fundamental swadharmas, guide, worrier, businessman, helper.
The guide is the person who is into knowledge and understanding. He care deeply about self understanding. Lao tzu or stepthen covey are the perfect example for this.
The worrries are into leadership and protecting what is right. Narendra Modi or martin Luther king are the perfect example of this.
The businessman are into serving other people needs. Jeff bosis is perfect example of this.
Helpers, there primary Jong is to help other three. A senior execuitve sundar pichai is perfect example of this.
How to identify your swadharma -
know your strength - take sometime and look back to your life, you will find certain pattern that you are already good at. You can also take an objective approach and take some strength test [ VIA strength test ], ask people around you what you are good at. And you will end up finding that there are certain signature strengths that you have from childhood. These are the direct gateway of understanding your swadharma.
know your interest - there are certain things that fascinates you, it has that pull, that gives a lot of attention, That is another way know your swadharma
know your values - there are some values we have organically or we cultivated it, but deep down we know those are true. For me honesty is very important. These values also gives direct indication of your nature.
How much money I need -
There certain amount of money we all need to survive, for me it is 1000$ it is the minimu amount of money I need to live a decent life in the place where I stay and then 8000$/month. I don’t know what else I would do even if I earn more money than that, I will probably end up donating most of it.
But how do I make money -
The nature of the world is interdependent. And your work will always involve serving someone else. And you earn your livelyhood by doing that. It is not about your skills but about others need. Although you can align your swadharma with others need and earn your livelyhood.
The magical formula, is to know your nature and strength, align it by serving someones need and earn the maximum amount of money you need to live a comfortable life. When you done this there is actually nothing more you can do. You have conquered the work.
