Seven astrik
Milton Ericsson, raise your hand if you know this name. Milton arikson. I will tell you about him in the end but you will have to listen carefully to make sense of it.
Ladies and gentleman, toastmasters. One of my friend Arthur was most excellent person [statement]. He was physcholgits and He had a master degree but he was really undecided about future, one day he read a book and entered in a medical school. in his senior year, one of his professor who liked him very much said “Arthur how do you think, you will get along in my exams” and Arthur replied “I won’t have any trouble in your exams, you only got ten question and they are” and he proceeded to name all.
The professor said “well, you know exactly the question I am going to ask, you have even told them to me in the right order. Did you break into my office and got hold on my copy.”
Arthur said “Nom I just knew, what would you ask on a final exams.”
The professor said “that’s not good enough for me, I am gonna have to take you to the dean”
Dean listened to the story and he said “is that true Arthur do you know the questions, ”
Arthur said “of course I know the question, I attended to his course and listen to his lectures”
And the dean said “In some way you must have gotten hold of that copy, unless you can prove otherwise I will have to bar you from from exams, and you are not going to graduate because of dishonesty”
Arthur said “you want proof that I know before the professor did, what his question is going to be, you can send someone in my room to get my notebook with the notes I took on his lecture, and you will notice I have certain things marked with 7 astriks. Those are the question professor is going to ask in exams. You will see that 1 and 2 and 3 astriks are variously applied to questions” because he has a habit of asking 10 questions, I selected 10 notes that I gave seven astriks to because those are the things he gave most emphasis to, through out the year and in the summery sessions.
Now they sent someone to get that notebook, and found that Arthur had marked some notes with one astriks, some won’t two, some with three, some with four, some with five, some with six and than there were only ten marked with seven astriks, and the astriks were not numbered serially from one to ten the middle was one, and maybe the top was 9 and so on.
Than the dean said “ you don’t have to take examination. You really listened and you heard the special Inotation that lecture gave to those perticular points.”
When you listen to a lecture and you pay attention to emphasis he pays to various topics. You can pick out the things that he is going to include in his ecxcamination Arthur was remarkable, he had a remarkable sense of hearing, and remarkable sense of pitch, so he always knew in advance what topics would be included in exams. They tell you what is the most important and they always want the importance to be recognised. No ow sometime they think the point that is not really important is important. Be careful to remember that point. Because that point will be included in exams. Communication is very complex thing, our facial Experssion, our eyes, the way he holds our body, the way we move our hands. It disclose a lot of information.
This was one of the story from Milton Ericsson, raise your hand if you know this name. He is the father of hypnotherapy, but unlike other therapist, he used stories to hypnotised people. Interesting isn’t it. So if he can hypnotised using stories with some practice we can atleast learn to grab audience attention.
